Ani Kavafian

Ani Kavafian was born in Istanbul, Turkey, of Armenian descent and began her musical studies at the age of three. When her family moved to New York, she continued at the Julliard school with Ivan Galamian.

Ms. Kavafian distinguished herself early by taking top honors in the Young Concert Artists International competition and was awarded the Avery Fisher Prize. Her career developed internationally as a chamber musician, recitalist, and as a soloist with orchestras. Her appearances include the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, and the symphonies of Pittsburgh, Detroit, Atlanta and Seattle.

Ms. Kavafian often performs with her sister, Ida Kavafian, and they have made many recordings together.

Ani is an artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and tours with them throughout the U.S. and Canada. She records for RCA, Columbia, Nonesuch, and Musical Heritage labels.

She plays a 1736 Muir McKenzie Stradivarius.
